Let me first admit that I am not terribly educated, nor am I versed in the nuances of political tradeoffs. In fact, most people think I'm an idiot and I'm ok with that. So perhaps the intellects in the crowd can enlighten me and speak VERY slow and plainly when responding to my commentary.
The 8 year old came home from school the other day and asked the question if I would rather have trees or fish. The logic goes something like if you cut trees down there will be no shade for the eggs. I of course asked why we can't have both. I'm confused on many levels. On the one hand people want cheap energy, and on the other their voting record contradicts their desire. If I vote "green" there will not be a company willing to finance the 10 years of environmental impact studies etc. to make the Susitna hydro project a reality. I want cheap energy, yet the inspiration to drop a bullet line into Anchorage is lost on the lack of a client base, insert Pebble Mine (a project that is projected to require the same amount of energy as Anchorage). Now we have two customers, may start to make sense. I want cheap energy and a cushy life in Alaska, let's drill ANWR. No, can't do that one, there may be impact...The pipeline is emptying, and we can't drill anymore (consider the voting record). We need a cushy life in AK, develop Pebble Mine. May have an impact, may kill fish, it's worth $600 + billion!!! Collateral damage. Kill the fish, take the $$. Remember, I want cheap energy, low gas prices, and a cushy life in Alaska. Yet I am unwilling to allow an impact. But impact is actually o.k. as long as it is studied to death...who's willing to pay for it. I hate big oil, I hate development, I hate impact....I want cheap energy and a cushy life in Alaska. Let's become a green energy state, didn't know that one actually provided an economic base... I'm beyond confused and am left with the rants of a simple mind.

LOL your blog is funny, and hits it right on. I agree with you on so many levels here. We can't have it all, the cushy life and the cheap energy. I guess we can learn from the old school people here such as the Amish and burn a candle at sunset, ride a horse, and do without. This is the cheapest energy, with the least impact to others. Point is we are all going to pay for our energy consumption and pay a lot with nuclear power. Unfortunately, Japan and Russia are still paying dearly for it.
